FCA appoints Stephen H Ravas inspector general

McLEAN, Va., July 28, 2026 — Farm Credit Administration Board Chairman and CEO Jeff Hall announced today the appointment of Stephen H Ravas to serve as inspector general and director of the Office of Inspector General.

“It’s a pleasure to welcome Stephen as FCA’s new inspector general. He brings extensive experience and effective leadership to the role.” said Chairman and CEO Jeff Hall. “Having served as our acting inspector general for the past 10 months, Stephen has a strong understanding of the important role that FCA plays in supporting America’s agriculture industry as regulator of the Farm Credit System. I look forward to continuing to work with him.”

“Stephen has served FCA well since he joined us last September in an acting capacity. I am pleased that he accepted the agency’s offer to become our new inspector general,” said Board Member Glen Smith. “His strong credentials and impressive array of legal, investigative and administrative experience will be an asset to our agency.”

Ravas was named FCA’s acting inspector general in September 2025, a position he took on while also serving as acting inspector general at AmeriCorps, a role he held since May 2023.

As inspector general, Ravas will be responsible for the independent oversight of FCA's programs and operations. He brings more than 12 years of dedicated service to the inspector general community. Before coming to FCA, he held several key positions at AmeriCorps, including acting inspector general, acting deputy inspector general, and counsel to the inspector general.

Before joining AmeriCorps, he was assistant counsel at the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Homeland Security, where he specialized in investigative legal issues and law enforcement techniques, and provided legal counsel for multidisciplinary investigations, audits, and inspections. He was also special investigative counsel for the Department of Commerce Office of Inspector General, focusing on administrative and ethics investigations, and completed a detail as a special assistant United States attorney in the Eastern District of Virginia. In that role, he advised federal agents on investigations and represented the U.S. in federal court and grand jury proceedings.

He has been recognized for his contributions to the inspector general community with multiple awards. He presents to the inspector general community on the crucial relationship between offices of inspectors general and Congress.

Ravas graduated cum laude from Wayne State University Law School and was editor-in-chief of the Wayne Law Review. He also holds a degree from James Madison University.
