FCS Diversity and Inclusion - PROPOSED RULE - MARCH 2011
Dear Mr. Van Meter, I help run a farmers' market in Massachussetts. In our region, demand for local farm produce way outstrips supply. Small farms tucked in and around towns are the norm here, demand for land (for non-farming purposes) is high, farming takes huge persistence against stiff odds, and the entry-barrier for young farmers is dauntingly high. We need a Farm Credit System not just to sustain existing farms but to grow farming in a changing, increasingly suburban landscape. Many cities around the world are thinking about regional food sustainability with greenbelts and local farm support -- the farming of the future. Thank you for reading this, Patricia Gadsby
