FCS Diversity and Inclusion - PROPOSED RULE - MARCH 2011 Dear Mr. Van Meter,
Thank you for providing the opportunity to comment on how the FCS might contribute to helping small and midsize farms.
I believe that the FCS should put together a plan for outreach to local and regional food producers and a requirement that periodic progress of outreach be made public. I also think that local and regional producers should be appointed to the FCS board and staff should be trained in the needs and how to reach local and regional producers. I believe that making credit available to small to mid-sized, local and regional producers will go a long way in creating a sustainable local food system and creating vibrant and more resilient local economies.
I am a resident of Hammond, LA which has a long agricultural history that is longing to be revived.
