FCS Diversity and Inclusion - PROPOSED RULE - MARCH 2011
Dear Mr. Van Meter,
I am writing to you today to support the Farm Credit Services in providing better services to small-to-midsize farms serving their local markets.
As a new small, organic vegetable farm (Foggy Hollow Farm), our family thinks that farms like ours are crucial to our community's resiliency. We serve local, nutritious food to the Nashville region in a energy-efficient way. Our food is fresher that than that is trucked in, better for our land as responsible stewards, and better for our economy as those local dollars circulate more often in our region. Plus, we are creating a community and a local food system with our friends and neighbors.
Proposed measures being considered that are important to us include requirements that FCS have a baselind of 10% assistance go to regional food producers, that FCS staff receive training on local and regional food systems, and that an outreach plan be developed to the public concerning such local food issues.
I would appreciate your support and would like a response of the actions taken concerning these comments.
