FCS Diversity and Inclusion - PROPOSED RULE - MARCH 2011
Dear Mr. Van Meter,
Here in California we have a wonderful organization, California FarmLink. One of the services they provide is loans for small and mid sized beginning farmers. This extremely popular program is expanding rapidly, bringing more food and money circulating in our local communities every day. As you know, the local food movement continues to grow with more consumer demand and more farmers desiring to meet this demand all the time. Small non-profits like FarmLink cannot possibly fill this niche alone. Diverse farms producing crops for local consumption are the most positive sector of our economy these days, but it is still small for lack of support. We could greatly strengthen our national food security and local economies if the FCA brought capital and other resources to this most important agricultural sector. I hope you will take action to diversify the clients you serve and the services you provide to assist small and mid sized diverse farms.
