FCS Diversity and Inclusion - PROPOSED RULE - MARCH 2011
Dear Mr. Van Meter, Sixteen years ago I organized a CSA at 90th ST and Fifth in Manhattan, NYC. I go to great lengths to buy local and or organic food at all times.
Farming and husbandry are imprtant crafts that take time to be learned and need to be supported. We are making a mistake in letting Monsanto and the big Ag Companies control our food including the seeds that are needed to grow it.
My money is insignifacant in comparison to what FCA could do to support local food by giving just 20% of your budget to smaller farmers.
It would be smart to give money to leverage other public and private capital necessary to address the larger weaknesses in the rest of the local and regional food supply chain.
Have you ever considered having a farmer from a small or medium farm on you board? I bet some one from big ag is on you Board. Make the playing field even.
Best,
Bonnie Lane Webber
