Subject: Memorandum Advising of Stolen Money Orders and Unauthorized Banking


The Farm Credit Administration (FCA) is distributing copies of two recent OCC Alerts issued by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). These documents contain information that may prevent you or your institution from suffering a financial loss.

OCC Alert 96-47 warns of stolen money orders on Corus Bank of Chicago, Illinois. The money orders have serial numbers ranging from A970850 to A972449. The OCC Alert requests that any information regarding these instruments be provided to Corus Bank and to the OCC's Enforcement and Compliance Division.

OCC Alert 96-46 is a semi-annual listing of entities that may be operating unauthorized banking businesses. This is an alphabetical listing of unauthorized entities from previous OCC Alerts and should be useful for identifying questionable institutions. OCC Alert 96-46 also refers to entities in Belize that were identified in OCC Alert 96-39. OCC Alert 96-39 was distributed to all Farm Credit System (FCS) institutions by memorandum dated December 3, 1996.

This memorandum complements similar OCC Alerts and other information previously distributed by the FCA to FCS institutions and should be retained for reference should your institution receive information related to the stolen money orders or any of these entities. The OCC Alerts include contact information for reporting suspicious activity.
