Subject: Memorandum Advising of Lost or Stolen Securities, Worthless Certified Bankers Note and Unauthorized Banking Entity
The Farm Credit Administration (FCA) is distributing copies of three recent OCC Alerts issued by the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). These documents contain information that may prevent you or your institution from suffering a financial loss.
OCC Alert 97-10 warns of common stock certificates for Bell Atlantic Corporation that are missing and presumed stolen. OCC Alert 97-12 warns of worthless financial instruments, referred to as Certified Bankers Notes, that have surfaced at banks. OCC Alert 97-7 identifies an entity that may be operating an unauthorized banking business. The OCC Alerts include contact telephone numbers or addresses should you have any information regarding the stock certificates, worthless financial instruments, or the unauthorized banking entity.
This memorandum complements similar OCC Alerts and other information previously distributed by the FCA to Farm Credit System institutions and should be retained for reference should your institution receive information related to the financial instruments or the unauthorized banking entity.
